Futaba's entire arc is watching a girl from Tokyo learn that happiness doesn't require a reason. Hikari doesn't teach her this through speeches or moments of revelation. They just dive, and eat, and sit on rocks, and somehow Futaba stops needing permission to be alive. The show trusts that quiet friendship and salt water and sunlight on your skin are enough.

Futaba moved from Tokyo to a small seaside town on Izu, where the reserved girl met the cheerful, optimistic Hikari at Yumegaoka High, and the two hit it off right away. Their friendship gave Futaba the nerve to try new things, scuba diving among them. Having passed her Open Water Diver exam, she now aims for the Advanced Open Water Diver certification. This second season of Amanchu! is a gentle slice-of-life comedy about two friends who find happiness in diving and in the small moments of daily life.
