Nobody's making slice-of-life comedy like this anymore. Atashin'chi doesn't need plot momentum or character arcs or anything fighting for your attention, it just watches a family exist, finds the rhythm in their stupid arguments and small moments, and makes it feel like you're sitting in their living room listening to people you actually know. Thirty years later and it still knows that the funniest thing isn't a joke, it's someone being exactly themselves in front of people who get it.

Atashin'chi NEXT is a new comedy anime that reboots Atashin'chi. It was made to mark the 30th anniversary of the original manga and was released in 2024 as a five-episode original net animation.
