Bal is a boy with nothing to his name and a big idea: rig up a rough little boat, run a pirate flag up the mast, and set sail to make his fortune. His crew is about as ragtag as it gets, his pig friend Bu, his sister Muge, and Kuna, a giant salamander who tags along for the ride. Bal means business, plotting scheme after scheme to line his pockets through thoroughly disreputable means. The trouble is that every rotten plan he cooks up somehow turns into a good deed instead. Between the mismatched crew and Bal's constant scheming gone sideways, the question hanging over the whole voyage is simple: can this pirate captain ever manage to actually be bad, or is he doomed to keep helping people no matter how hard he tries not to?
