Chaika finally stops playing coy about who she actually is, and that revelation burns through everything you thought you understood about the first season. The action sequences become clearer, sharper, more vicious because the stakes aren't abstract anymore, they're personal, they're about saving someone you've watched survive impossible things. Ten episodes is brutally short for what this story needs to say, but the show knows that and swings harder because of it, leaving you raw instead of satisfied.

The hunt for Emperor Gaz's remains goes on, but Chaika now finds herself doubting who she is and what her mission is for. Urged on by an enigmatic acquaintance known only as Guy, she parts ways with Toru and sets out for a secret island, hoping to find the Emperor's Fortune and learn about her past. Toru cannot turn his back on his duty as a saboteur. Aware of his growing affection for her, he goes after Chaika to protect her from whatever dangers lie ahead, even the truth about her own existence. Meanwhile the Red Chaika pursues the remaining remains, and the Gillette corporation keeps hunting down every Chaika. Along the way, Chaika, Fredrica, Toru and Akari resolve to uncover a secret the Emperor kept hidden. The season mixes action, adventure, comedy and fantasy.
