The reboot finally breaks something that shouldn't break: the bond between a DigiDestined and their partner. Sora arrives in the Digital World expecting to feel that connection again, instead finding indifference. The new villain hunting them is almost secondary to watching her try to understand why her digimon no longer needs her the way it once did.

After the reboot, the DigiDestined return to the Digital World and find their Digimon partners no longer remember them. Sora hits a particular wall, as Piyomon treats her with indifference and refuses to talk to her. A hostile Digimon then attacks and scatters the group across the recreated world while a new villain hunts them. In the human world, Daigo Nishijima learns that a new entity is chasing Libra, which he suspects is Meicoomon. Meicoomon alone still remembers her partner Meiko, who has come to the Digital World by herself to find her.
