Nobita gets one simple question answered: does he actually marry Shizuka? The movie refuses to make it dramatic. Instead it sits with him in the day before, watching his future self just be a person living a life, chasing down a lost cat with friends who've known him forever. That ordinary kindness, that proof that things work out, that's the entire point.

Nobita is deeply depressed, convinced that he will never be able to marry, so Doraemon takes him into the future to see whether he ends up marrying Shizuka. Their trip goes slightly wrong: rather than arriving on the wedding day, they turn up the day before. From there the two of them shadow the adult Nobita, who spends that day with his friends searching for the owner of a stray cat so they can hand it back. The film is a fantasy entry in the Doraemon franchise, released in 1999.
