A songstress vanishes from a tiny island, and twelve episodes later you realize the entire show was a elaborate con game disguised as absurdist comedy. The plot twists hit like Steins;Gate but from directions you didn't know existed, each one recontextualizing what you thought you were watching. The animation budget clearly got spent on story instead of frames, which means every weird character choice lands harder because nothing here is wasted on spectacle. EGU Island floats somewhere out at sea, and its only pastime is listening to a songstress called End of the World. Every day her voice captivates the islanders, until the calm breaks all at once. With the singer gone, anger, doubt and anxiety spread across the island, and people start acting on their own thoughts and aims. A licking war breaks out over End of the World, and her fate rests with a legendary legacy known as the EGUMI Legacy. The show is a short-format comedy.
