This is what happens when you let an animator who sees movement as architecture design a fever dream about a city eating itself alive. Morimoto doesn't waste time on plot, every frame is the story, every transition is a scream, every color choice a weapon. You either surrender to the sensory assault or you're lost in the first thirty seconds.

EXTRA is a short music clip from 1995 that pairs techno artist Ken Ishii with Koji Morimoto, an animation veteran who has worked with Studio 4°C. The two creators treat it as their first joint effort in techno music and animation, and it plays out as a loose, freewheeling exchange about computers, music, images and the Internet. Released on CD-ROM, it leaves the viewer asking what its one-word title is supposed to mean. The visuals draw on Morimoto's style of Asian back alleys, giving the piece an action and horror edge. The clip was praised in Japan and abroad and won MTV Dance Video of the Year in England.
