Saber versus Gilgamesh hits with the kind of animation budget that makes you rewind it three times. This is what the Holy Grail War looked like before stay night stripped it down, before it became a visual novel first. One episode, no filler, pure kinetic violence and the original concept Nasu actually wanted to tell.
Fate/Prototype is a one-episode OVA that condenses Nasu's original concept for what became Fate/stay night, mixing action, fantasy and romance. Ayaka Sajou belongs to a well-known family of magi and is expected to join the Holy Grail War, but losing her father and sister in the last one has left her withdrawn and determined to stay out of it. When a knight puts her life in danger, she summons a Servant of her own, Saber. With him at her side, she becomes a real participant in the war she had hoped to avoid.
