The show takes everything you think you know about Chinese mythology and uses it as a weapon against your expectations. Character arcs don't follow the arc you predicted; they pivot on small moral choices that compound into cosmic consequence. The 100-episode runtime means it has nowhere to hide, filler would sink this, instead every confrontation carries weight because you've watched these gods become human first. The animation budget fluctuates hard, but the mythology research underneath never does. By the time you reach the endgame, the show has recontextualized which side was ever actually right. If you want mythological worldbuilding that doesn't condescend to its own material, this is built for you.

Fengshen Bang Chuanqi is an action, adventure and fantasy short from Shanghai Animation Film Studio.
