A witch moves to the countryside and nothing happens, which is exactly the point. Makoto's magic is incidental to the real discovery: how a girl learns to belong somewhere by slowing down enough to notice it. The show builds its world through small moments, a bike ride, a conversation with a neighbor, the way light changes across a field, until you realize you've stopped waiting for the story to start and started living in it instead.

Tradition says a witch sets out on her own at 15 to study magic, but Makoto Kowata's parents want their directionally challenged daughter to finish high school first. So she and her black cat familiar Chito leave Yokohama for Aomori, a green northern region witches favor for its rich nature, to live with her second cousins Kei and Chinatsu. Ordinary people are not meant to know witches exist, a rule Makoto often forgets. Her relatives and new friends are introduced to the odd customs of witchcraft, from a dog fortune teller to the strange training her older sister Akane gives her. The result is a gentle slice of life story with supernatural touches, about everyday life in a new home.
