Sagara and Kaname's dynamic, that specific friction between a teenage girl who wants to be normal and a soldier who doesn't understand what that means, finally gets the breathing room it deserved in the original series. The remaster smooths over twenty years of production roughness without losing the DNA of what made FMP work: absurd mecha combat that stops mid-scene so two people can just talk about their lives. This is a love letter to people who watched the original and knew what it was trying to be.

Full Metal Panic!: Boy Meets Girl is a 2017 film that recuts the franchise's original 2002 TV anime as a director's cut. The production was planned as one part of a trilogy of films retelling that series, and the announcement did not say whether fresh footage would be added. Expect a mix of action, comedy, science fiction and mecha, drawn from Shoji Gatoh's light novel franchise, which Shikidouji illustrated.
