This show doesn't care about rock music, it cares about four girls becoming your friends. There is no plot to chase, no stakes, no reason to keep watching except that sitting in that clubroom feels better than being anywhere else. Kyoto Animation makes every mundane moment (Yui forgetting her lyrics, Mio's embarrassment, Ritsu's grin) land with such precise charm that you stop waiting for something to happen and realize nothing needs to.

Yui walks into high school unsure which club to join, then spots a poster for the Light Music Club and signs up on a whim. Problem: she has no idea how to play an instrument. The three existing members, Ritsu, Mio, and Tsumugi, need another member to keep the club from being disbanded, so they try everything from snacks to promises of slacking off to keep her. A short performance finally sparks her interest, and she stays on as their guitarist despite her complete lack of experience. What follows is a gentle, funny slice-of-life comedy about Yui learning guitar with the band's help, juggling schoolwork, and running into plenty of mishaps. Club time is mostly spent goofing around, with only bits of practice mixed in, even as the school festival and their first performance draw closer.
