A kid with a doll throws Lupin off his game in exactly the way the franchise needed. He's a gentleman thief forced to actually be a gentleman, and watching him soften around Julia without losing a single ounce of his con-artist edge is the real heist. The pacing drags in the second act, but the diamond-Nostradamus-tower setup pays off in pure adventure cinema that remembers what made Cagliostro untouchable.

After stealing a diamond in Brazil, Lupin tucks the stone inside a doll and catches a flight out of the country. On the plane, a little girl named Julia makes off with the doll, and her nanny turns out to be Fujiko Mine. Before Lupin can recover it, hijackers seize the aircraft and carry Julia off. The kidnappers want the same prize Fujiko is chasing: a book of Nostradamus prophecies hidden in a tower belonging to Julia's father. Lupin and his gang team up to rescue the girl, reclaim the diamond, and uncover the mysteries behind the strange book in this adventure comedy film.
