Jigen gets a movie where he's finally allowed to be a real person instead of just the gun that goes boom. The action sequences are stylish enough to hang on a wall, but what actually lands is watching a partner realize his best friend might actually die this time. It's darker Lupin done right: the heist is secondary to what it costs the people pulling it.

Lupin III and his partner Jigen Daisuke set out to steal the Little Comet, a prized gemstone kept at an embassy in East Doroa. The country has tightened its borders and security after the singer Queen Malta, who hoped to ease tensions with rival West Doroa, was shot dead during a performance there. The theft goes ahead, but the police seem to know the pair's plans in advance. Before they can escape, the same killer who took Queen Malta's life has them in his sights. Suspicious, Jigen visits a cemetery and finds a grave bearing his own name. It is the signature of the sniper Yael Okuzaki, whose marked targets have never survived. Why the sniper wants only Jigen, and not Lupin, remains a mystery, and Fujiko's presence makes matters even more tangled. The film blends action, adventure, comedy and drama as a spinoff continuing from the 2012 series Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine.
