This is Lupin III before he became a legend, before the heists, before he knew what he actually wanted. Jigen doesn't respect him yet, and that gap between the kid Lupin thinks he is and the thief he's about to become is where all the tension lives. You watch two people who will eventually trust each other with their lives actively not trusting each other, and the show knows exactly how good that friction is.

A bored junior high student in 1960s Tokyo, Lupin III becomes fascinated by Daisuke Jigen, a young and mysterious sharpshooter. When the two talk at a nightclub, Jigen writes Lupin off as a sheltered, naive kid from a wealthy family and wants nothing to do with him. Then the club's singer, Yoko, is hunted by the yakuza, and while Jigen steps in to help her, he discovers that Lupin is the heir of a legendary thief. Loosely drawn from the Young Lupin III stories of the original manga, this six-episode action comedy tells a new origin story for the famous gentleman thief against the backdrop of Japan's economic boom.
