Yamada works as a hostess in Shinjuku's nightclub district while attending university, and she cares far more about excelling as a hostess than about her grades, since the money is hard to turn down. In 2012 she meets Mii-chan, a tiny young woman who can barely read or write and is so clumsy that staff and customers mock her. Yet Mii-chan's cheerful energy and tireless drive win Yamada over, and the two form an unlikely friendship. The drama is tender and tragic, building toward an ending that parts them for good.
