A dead father stuck watching his son run a grocery store is the entire premise, and the show treats it like the most natural thing in the world. Ataro inherits his father's small grocery store, Yaobatsu, after the old man, Batsugoro, dies in a fall while trying to fetch a stuck balloon for a child. Worried about how his son will manage, Batsugoro lingers at the shop as a ghost. Ataro runs the store on his own at first, but his follower Dekoppachi soon starts pitching in. Surrounded by odd characters such as Nyarome and Butamatsu, the pair live out a warm-hearted comedy.
