Suwa watching the person he loves love someone else, knowing exactly what's coming, knowing he can't stop it, that's the entire movie. The animation upgrade just makes you feel it sharper. By the runtime's end, you're not crying about time travel mechanics; you're crying because some people are built to be the one holding the umbrella while someone else stands in the rain with their person.

This film revisits the main story of orange through the eyes of Hiroto Suwa, who keeps backing the relationship between his friends Kakeru and Naho. It also adds an original story set after the manga and TV series. At twenty-six, Suwa, now married to Naho, climbs Mt. Koubou with old high school classmates Takako Chino, Azusa Murasaka and Saku Hagita to see the cherry blossoms. As the sun sets, they remember Kakeru Naruse, the friend they lost ten years earlier. A visit to his old home and a talk with his grandmother reveal the truth behind his death. Weighed down by regret, the group writes letters to their sixteen-year-old selves, and the young Suwa who receives his must decide what to do with what he now knows.
