Alice is on her way to meet Rin in a park, and as she goes she thinks back on what came before. The film retells the events of the earlier OVA through her narration, framed by present-day scenes of Alice and Rin that were created for the movie and do not appear in the manga. The result is a two-hour drama and romance with a science fiction backdrop, built around one character's memories on the way to a meeting.
