A kid with a disability lives a quiet life that refuses to be tragic or inspirational. The movie watches him move through his day, cook, talk to friends, exist without apology or performance. There is no arc here, no triumph narrative waiting to teach you something, just the ordinary weight and texture of being alive in a body that works differently. That refusal to make his existence into a story about overcoming is what breaks you open. The gentleness is the point. Based on the picture book by Sakagami Shinobu, with illustrations by Cookie!, the film draws on the author's own life. It centers on the easygoing everyday routine of a 5-year-old and a puppy called Riku, an Italian greyhound. Other dogs round out the cast: Tsutomu the chihuahua, Yousuke the miniature dachshund, Maruchan the French bulldog, and Paguzoou the pug. The slice-of-life focus stays on carefree daily moments.
