The female lead doesn't exist to be saved, she's the one doing the saving, and the show never apologizes for that. The five guys are built as a genuine brotherhood, not a harem roster, which means their chemistry actually lands when the show finally asks them to bleed for each other. It's bishounen sentai that understands its own DNA: colorful team dynamics, emotional gut-punches, and a girl who won't step aside so the boys can be heroes.

Adapted from an otome game, the story is set in the Blue World, which is under attack by the Nightfly O'Note. These alien creatures cross over from the Red World through a crimson barrier. The defense agency LAG operates from the Ryukyu Islands, and the Scared Rider units sent to fight have been destroyed five times over. The sixth, Scared Rider Xechs, brings together a group of young men, but almost as soon as it forms, the invasions abruptly stop. With no enemy to face, the members drift through restless everyday life and start a band, Odd-l's, to cope with their low mood. Then Akira Asagi, a 17-year-old researcher, is assigned to LAG as their instructor and commander, and life at the base changes for her and the unit.
