You watch Kuniko punch her way through a collapsing world because the show refuses to pretend the rich will save anyone but themselves. Japan's future has fractured into three worlds. Earthquakes and runaway global warming have left the country's ruins overgrown with jungle, where many scrape by as refugees. The rich and privileged live in Atlas, an exclusive tower city that others long to enter, while anonymous hackers work the global economy online. Kuniko Houjou, a spirited girl and heir to a renegade town, sets out to lead her people into Atlas despite its ruthless government. She is joined by a colorful group of rebels in a movement called Metal-Age. As they push against the city's gates, they find that Atlas rests on dark secrets and lies.
