During the Tang Dynasty, the monk Sanzou Houshi sets out for India to bring back copies of important Buddhist scriptures that China does not yet have. Son Gokuu, the Monkey King, travels with him from the start, able to change his shape, cover ground at great speed and wield a cudgel that changes size. On the road they meet Cho Hakkai, the Pig Monster, and later Sa Gojou, the River Monster, both of whom join the pilgrimage to atone for their sins. Enemies lie in wait along the long, hard route, hoping to wreck the journey. The single fantasy adventure special aired on Fuji TV in 1982 as part of the Nissei Family Special lineup.
