Maetel is trapped between two extinctions, and the show knows she can't save both. Her mother built a world where becoming machine is survival, where staying human is slow death, and Maetel has to choose which one she'll betray. The real weight isn't the cyborg philosophy or the space war, it's that every choice costs her someone she loves, and the show refuses to let her find a door that opens both ways.

Maetel stands at a crossroads between two worlds. Once she fled La Metal, a frozen, dying planet where people must become cyborgs to survive, abandoning her mother and her home. Now that world calls her back, and her choices look grim: follow her mother's path, taking on a robot mind and earning the scorn of every human, or run and join humanity's fight against the machines. She does not face this alone, though. She has comrades and protectors, and if she can accept friendship from metal beings who want peace, and stand against those who believe flesh and blood alone makes someone human, she may yet find a path of her own.
