Shiki lets you sit with the people you've been living with for five films without needing to save the world. A girl trying not to die meets another girl who has already stopped trying to live, and somehow that ordinary moment matters more than all the supernatural violence that came before. This is epilogue as permission: to breathe, to check in, to remember that the story was never about the mystery.

Shiki reluctantly ends up looking after a black cat that Mikiya leaves with her while he is out of town, and she struggles to make sense of an animal that seems to miss him. Elsewhere in the city, Miyazuki, a student at Reien Girls' Academy, is grieving a close friend who took her own life by leaping from the Fujou Building. When Miyazuki means to end her own life as well, she meets her classmate Asagami Fujino, a blind girl with psychokinetic power and a painful past. The two have little in common, yet Fujino reminds Miyazuki of the friend she lost and helps her come to terms with her grief. Adapted from short manga stories drawn from Nasu Kinoko's Mirai Fukuin novel, this supernatural mystery drama film also includes a later holiday episode centered on Shiki and Mikiya, and it was shown in theaters alongside Mirai Fukuin.
