Keiichi Tanaami's short turns a boxing ring into a space for abstract animation. Over its running time the blows of the fight and the halftone dots of printed reproduction slowly merge until they can no longer be told apart. Tanaami filmed a match with a motor-driven camera, produced two thousand offset prints and photographed each one again. He credits the idea to seeing boxing on television, then finding that the next morning's newspaper image conveyed the thrill of the sport more strongly.
