The half-spirit girls carry the weight of two worlds at once, and the show trusts them to save themselves. The fight animation is alive in ways that matter, every slash of color, every arc of a blade, every flutter of petals actually tells you something about who's fighting and why. This is a 13-episode romance that somehow gives all four girls real arcs, real stakes, and an ending that swings hard enough to break the formula it set up.

In an alternate Meiji-era Japan where humans and spirits live side by side, the country is starting to Westernize. The government sets up the Ministry of Spirit Affairs to resolve mysterious cases involving spirits, staffing it with four half-spirit girls, among them the strong-willed Zakuro, and three human second lieutenants. One of them, Kei Agemaki, son of a famous general, has spent his life hiding a deep fear of the paranormal. With help from the fox spirit Kushimatsu, the mismatched officers and spirit maidens must learn to work together, and romance develops alongside the supernatural cases.
