Konoha's trapped in the exact gap between the anime industry she loves and the one that actually pays bills. The show doesn't pretend this is romantic struggle, it's just grinding through commissions for faceless NPCs while watching the genre she cares about die in real time. That retro game becomes less about nostalgia and more about proof that bishojo games used to demand artists who gave a damn, which makes every background character she half-asses a small betrayal of who she wanted to be.

Konoha Akisato loves beautiful girls and bishojo games, and dreams of becoming a hugely popular illustrator. At a bishojo game company that is struggling in the social network game era, she works as a sub-illustrator, painting the backs of background characters. When a game shop owner hands her a classic title, Dokyusei, she opens it and a bright light sends her back to 1992, just as the bishojo game boom is beginning. She lands a job as an illustrator at a small company called Alcohol Soft. Her skills from the future do not carry over easily, though: the technology and art methods of the time are far more old-fashioned, and she has to adjust quickly if she wants to reach her goal. The result is a comedic slice-of-life story about her devotion to drawing cute girls.
