Misaki builds Hikaru from nothing and has to learn that her own doubts are the only real opponent in the ring. Twelve-year-old Misaki Suzuhara moves to Tokyo to live with her aunt and stumbles into Angelic Layer, a competitive game where players called Deuses control miniature dolls through pure thought. These Angels battle while their operators command them mentally, turning willpower into combat. Misaki quickly becomes hooked, building her own Angel named Hikaru and entering tournaments alongside new friends who share her passion. Even as a newcomer she shows advanced skill, and in this game will and determination matter far more than size or strength. With the national championships on the horizon, the competition grows fierce, and not everyone she meets is on her side. Misaki must handle the pressure of constant battles while also adjusting to life in an unfamiliar city.
