In near-future Japan, five years after an unexplained disaster, rebuilding has made real progress. Two gifted university researchers, Umatarou Tenma and Hiroshi Ochanomizu, have no investors behind them, so they take odd jobs to pay for their goal: a humanoid robot with a mind and emotions like a human's. Once they complete A106, they start testing his emotional capacity right away.
