The moment Shoutarou walks into that gym, you already know every beat that's coming, new kid finds his thing, finds his team, chases nationals. The show doesn't care. It builds these four distinct personalities so completely that watching them fail and fight and laugh together becomes the whole point, not the destination. The 3D gymnastics sequences are clean enough that you feel the physics of their bodies, but the real draw is quieter: a kid discovering that loving something fiercely with people who love it back is worth the bruises.

Shoutarou Futaba's last summer of middle school changes everything when he witnesses boys gymnastics for the first time. The sport's blend of artistry and athleticism completely captivates him, and he carries that spark into his first year at Soshukan High School. Walking into the gymnastics club, he meets a chaotic crew of dedicated athletes and Misato Ryouya, a naturally talented gymnast whose skill seems almost otherworldly. What begins as casual curiosity transforms into genuine passion as Shoutarou trains alongside his new team. The gymnastics club isn't just about perfecting routines and landing tricks. It's about confronting your own limits, pushing through doubt, and building something meaningful with people who understand that struggle. Between the small victories on the mat and the friction that comes from chasing an ambitious dream together, these boys learn what it means to commit fully to something during these formative years. Backflip captures the raw energy of youth sports, balancing humor and heart as these athletes discover who they become when they refuse to give up.
