This is a show about a sixth-grader and his legendary trading card that actually talks back, and it means every word of it. The card battles matter less than the friendships forming around them, the weird supernatural stuff never overshadows the mundane joy of being a kid who just found something that makes him feel less alone. Bashin's journey to become champion is real because the show never forgets that becoming champion means something different to everyone at the table.
Toppa Bashin is a lively, thrill-hungry schoolboy who cares far more about the card game Battle Spirits than about his lessons, to the annoyance of his classmates. He wears a ruby pendant left to him by his father, who has disappeared. When Bashin meets J, the young prodigy who holds the national title, he challenges him to a match, and the hidden power in his pendant awakens. The two are carried off to the Isekai World, a realm in the sky where summoned Spirits take real form. Bashin throws himself into this new arena, facing other battlers who carry unusual pendants of their own, as he aims to become the strongest champion. The result is an adventure comedy built around card battles, and Bashin gradually learns that the game holds more than he ever expected.
