Rygart is useless in a world where everyone has magic, until suddenly he's the only person who can pilot the one weapon that actually matters. The show doesn't waste time on self-pity or training montages. It drops him into a war where his disability becomes his only asset, and then asks what it costs to be essential when you've spent your whole life feeling like nothing.

Rygart Arrow lives on the continent of Cruzon, where nearly everyone can draw on quartz to make light, run machines and pilot giant mecha called Golems. Rygart is an un-sorcerer who cannot use quartz at all, which makes much of daily life hard. As a boy he befriended Hodr and Sigyn, who went on to become King and Queen of Krisna, and Zess, the younger brother of Athens' Secretary of War. Years later Rygart meets Hodr and Sigyn again and learns that Athens has invaded Krisna, with Zess commanding one of the attacking forces. In the capital he finds that he can pilot a recently unearthed ancient Golem that no magic user can operate, and whose systems outclass modern machines. He hesitates at first, then enters the war in the hope of saving all three of his friends. This 12 episode TV version recompiles the earlier films and adds newly animated scenes.
