A lazy kid who just wants to avoid the draft somehow ends up outthinking every general on the battlefield. Ikta doesn't win through heroics or willpower, he wins because he actually sees the problem differently than everyone else, and watching a teenager dismantle military doctrine with basic logic is absurdly satisfying. The show compresses what feels like a full season's worth of character and consequence into thirteen episodes without cutting corners, then stops right when you're convinced there's more to come.

Ikta Solork is a lazy young man who wants little more than female company and a good place to nap, and he hates war. When the Katjvarna Empire goes to war with the neighboring Republic of Kioka, circumstances push him into reluctantly sitting the High Grade Military Officer Exam alongside his childhood friend, Yatorishino Igsem. On the boat to the exam, they meet three other recruits: Matthew Tetdrich, Torway Remeon and Haroma Becker. A sudden storm sinks their ship and strands all five in enemy territory. There they learn that Princess Chamille, heir to the imperial throne, is being held hostage. They free her, and each of them is named an Imperial Knight. Ikta must now set aside his dream of a quiet life, relying on his sharp intellect as a war-torn world begins to see him as a great commander.
