Millions of players around the world are immersed in the online fantasy game Elder Tales. When the twelfth expansion launches, something impossible happens: thirty thousand Japanese players are pulled into the game and cannot log out. They are no longer players controlling avatars, but actual inhabitants of a world that has suddenly become real. Shiroe, a strategist who has played for eight years, finds himself in this new reality alongside his friend Naotsugu and an assassin named Akatsuki. The non-player characters are now truly alive, and the tricks learned with a keyboard no longer apply. Shiroe uses his experience to lead others and negotiate with the native inhabitants, hoping to bring stability to the city of Akihabara. The result is a fantasy adventure where strategy and politics matter as much as combat.
