You're trapped in a system that sells you the future you think you want, then charges you everything else to keep it. [C] doesn't waste time explaining the metaphor, it just breaks you with it, over and over, until you realize the money was never the point. A scholarship kid who only asked for stability ends up fighting invisible creditors in a war he didn't know existed, and by the time he understands the cost, he's already paid it.

Japan's economy teeters on the edge of collapse until a sovereign wealth fund steps in to save it. The crisis passes, but prosperity never follows. Unemployment rises. Despair spreads. Kimimaro is a scholarship student who wants nothing more than a quiet, normal future, but a stranger offers him something impossible to refuse: enough money to change everything, if he's willing to bet his potential on it. That decision pulls him into the Financial District, a shadow economy where deals aren't contracts but high-stakes duels. Every week, Kimimaro competes against other desperate people in tournaments that determine winners and losers. The catch is brutal: lose your deal, and you lose not just money but your chance at any future at all. To keep his fortune and his future intact, he has to adapt fast to this strange new world and figure out what money is really worth.
