Conan and Kaitou Kid actually work together here, which almost never happens in the main series. The mystery is thin, basically just an excuse to watch them circle each other with competing egos and opposite methods. What saves it is the pure satisfaction of seeing two characters who should theoretically cancel each other out instead create a weird, functional partnership on an island where Kid can't disappear into a crowd.

Conan, the Detective Boys, Ran and Sonoko are staying on Koyakejima, a remote island about 1,000 km south-south-east of Tokyo. A luxury hotel there is showing a gem called the Artemis' Tear, and the phantom thief Kaitou Kid means to steal it. Inspector Nakamori and a special police squad guard the jewel closely, but a nearby lighthouse whose beam can be operated by remote control gives Kid an advantage. The young detectives quickly throw themselves into the case, with Conan leading them against the thief. Made as an original story for DVD release, this one-episode OVA mixes mystery and adventure with comedy.
