The mystery collapses halfway through, leaving only what this movie actually cares about: Conan and Kaito Kid circling each other across Singapore's skyline while everything explodes in precisely-drawn angles. Animation this sharp makes even a predictable heist sing. This is a franchise movie that knows exactly what it is, not a puzzle to solve, but a spectacle to watch unfold.

A giant blue sapphire called the blue lapis fist, said to have gone down with a pirate ship off Singapore in the late 19th century, becomes the target of a local millionaire. When the gem goes on show at the Marina Sands hotel, a murder takes place, and a Kaitou Kid notice smeared with blood turns up at the scene. Ran and Sonoko are in Singapore for a karate tournament, while Conan, who has no passport, was meant to stay home. Kid, wanting to use him, whisks him abroad with a magic trick and takes his glasses, watch and clothes, leaving Conan to go in disguise under the invented name Arthur Hirai. When Kid learns the fist is kept in a vault beneath a manor, he runs into a trap and faces karate champion Makoto Kyogoku.
