The Detective Boys trailing Kogoro expecting a glamorous case instead watch him botch a stakeout, complain about bills, and accidentally stumble into the actual mystery. It's the show knowing its own formula well enough to laugh at it. You get the warmth of the core cast in miniature, no stakes, just the pleasure of watching kids discover their hero is basically a tired guy who happens to be right sometimes.

Conan Edogawa and his classmates are given a school report on a small business, and after weighing other options the Detective Boys settle on the work of detective Kogoro Mouri. A simple interview is not enough for them: they want to see his job up close. So the group, with Conan and Ai Haibara tagging along reluctantly, follows Kogoro for a whole day. The outing turns grim when the case he is working on takes a sudden and dangerous twist. The result is a single-episode mystery adventure OVA.
