On Chironup, an island in Japan's far north, the foxes Ken and Chin raise their two cubs, Koro and Kan, who grow up without a care in the world. The family makes friends with a fisherman and his wife. Their peaceful life ends when soldiers arrive for military exercises and decide to collect fox pelts as keepsakes, and the foxes have to flee. This 1987 animated drama film is adapted from Hiroyuki Takahashi's novel, and its story indirectly reflects the hardships of the Ainu people and the disputed northern islands.
