A boy becomes a killer to avenge his father, only to discover the man he's chasing doesn't want to fight him back. Askeladd won't give Thorfinn the duel that defines him, forcing him to live inside his own rage for years until the show quietly asks: what happens when you finally get what you swore to destroy yourself for? The real war isn't on the battlefield.

Thorfinn is the son of one of the greatest Viking warriors, and when the mercenary leader Askeladd kills his father in battle, the boy vows revenge. Raised among the very band that shattered his family, he grows into a fearsome fighter and stays by Askeladd's side, waiting for the chance to face him in a duel. What begins as a personal vendetta pulls Thorfinn into the struggle between the Danes and England for the English crown, a conflict in which Viking mercenaries chase fame and plunder by choosing a side. Through it all he clings to pride in his family and to childhood stories told by Leif Ericson of Vinland, a warm, fertile land to the west said to be free of war and slavery. Vinland Saga pairs historical adventure with hard-hitting action and drama.
