Gon's journey starts as a simple quest to find his dad, then systematically dismantles every naive assumption you had about what that means. By the time you reach the Chimera Ant arc, the show has spent 100 episodes building characters so real that watching them break feels personal. It refuses the easy answers shonen usually settles for, choosing instead to ask what it actually costs when a child gets exactly what he wants.

Gon lives on Kujira Isle, and his father, a Hunter, vanished long ago. Hunters take on perilous work across the world, from catching criminals to seeking lost treasures and mythical creatures in unexplored lands. At 12, Gon sets out to become one himself, hoping that walking his father's path will lead him back to him. First he must pass the Hunter Exam, a selection process with a low pass rate where many applicants are maimed or killed. During the exam he befriends three others: Kurapika, who is driven by revenge; Leorio, who is studying to be a doctor; and Killua, a rebellious former assassin. Their motives differ, but they stick together through the trials and dangers of a Hunter's life. The series is an action adventure set in a fantasy world, a remake of the earlier adaptation of Togashi Yoshihiro's manga.
