Miwako's wedding day becomes a trap that reaches back three years to Jinpei's death, and the movie knows exactly how much weight that name carries in this franchise. The mystery itself is simpler than classic Conan, but the emotional payoff, watching Takagi and Miwako's relationship earn its moment, is why this one breaks through where bigger plot twists wouldn't. Halloween crowds fill Shibuya as a wedding gets underway at the Shibuya Hikarie building, with Miwako Sato wearing a bridal gown. Conan and other guests are watching when an attacker storms in, and Wataru Takagi is hurt while shielding Sato. He pulls through, but Sato is shaken by an old vision of the grim reaper, first seen when Jinpei Matsuda, the man she loved, died in a bombing spree three years ago. At the same moment, the bomber behind those attacks breaks out of prison. Meanwhile, public safety officer Rei Furuya, also known as Toru Amuro, has a collar bomb locked onto him by a disguised stranger. While helping to disarm it, Conan learns of Amuro's past clash with a bomber called Plamya.
