The ten-year gap hits different because everyone aged out of the adventure the same way you did. Lui arrives as the proof that something happened before any of them were chosen, and the whole thing reframes what being a DigiDestined actually means. Daisuke has to confront that the kid he was and the adult he became are not the same person solving the same problem.

Ten years after their adventures in the Digital World, it is 2012 and Daisuke Motomiya is twenty. He and the other DigiDestined have gone their separate ways and are slowly changing, yet they remain close to their partner Digimon. Then a giant Digitama appears in the sky over Tokyo Tower and sends the world a message wishing that everyone could have friends and a Digimon of their own. Soon after, a young man named Lui Ohwada approaches Daisuke and his friends carrying a cracked Digivice and says he was the very first DigiDestined. A Digimon called Ukkomon also appears in the real world, hoping every person can have a partner. The film is a sci-fi fantasy adventure that looks into how the DigiDestined first came to be and the private wish Lui has kept to himself.
