A kid gets pulled into a world that runs on the same rules as the game he loved, except now the stakes are real and the monsters depending on him are breathing. Genki never stops being a kid who's in over his head, which is exactly why you believe every decision matters. The journey to find Phoenix becomes secondary to watching a ragtag team of misfits grow into something that actually works together, one impossible battle at a time.

A love of video games becomes Genki's gateway to another world when a special CD-ROM he wins pulls him straight into Monster Rancher. There he rescues Holly and her eyeball monster Suezo from the villainous Black Dino Squad, then creates a baby monster of his own named Mocchi. Along the way they team up with the gentle stone giant Golem, along with Tiger and Hare. The group shares one goal: bring back the Phoenix, the one monster able to stop the evil Moo. Unlocking mysterious disks, meeting new monsters and making others, they face Moo's forces, including his blue Gel Troops. The result is a fantasy adventure that mixes action with plenty of comedy.
