Joe has to choose between the exam that determines his future and the war that needs him right now. The movie doesn't pretend this is a hard call. It's harder. By the time Gomamon runs away, you understand that growing up means losing things you can't get back, and Digimon Adventure tri. makes you feel every second of it.

The DigiDestined spend a day at a nearby hot springs theme park and have a good time, but Joe skips the trip to study for his exams. Another infected Digimon, Ogremon, attacks Odaiba, and Gomamon runs away from home after Joe keeps avoiding everything to do with Digimon. Joe is caught between his schoolwork and his duty as a DigiDestined. Meanwhile, Mimi, recently back in Japan after years in the United States, struggles to fit in with her classmates and the other DigiDestined, and her self-centered ideas cause friction. As the threat of infected Digimon grows, Joe and Mimi must sort out their personal conflicts before their friends need them in the fight.
