The fifth film in the series finally stops pretending the kids can fix this. Meicoomon's rage at a single moment of cruelty unravels everything they've built, and the show doesn't flinch from the cost: one person's pain becomes the world's ending. By the time you understand what's actually broken, it's too late to go back to thinking these are stories about friendship winning.

A single moment of violence fractures everything. When Meiko is injured by a mysterious man who bears Gennai's likeness, her Digimon partner Meicoomon snaps. Forced to evolve into Meicrackmon and corrupted by an evil influence, she vanishes into a human world that has since become distorted, holding enough power to bring about its ruin. Meanwhile the Digital World seems to turn against Meiko and the other Chosen Children, who slip away from the enemies hunting them as they search for a way home. Back in the human world, a messenger from the entity called Homeostasis meets Meiko's father and Daigo Nishijima to discuss where Meicoomon came from, and reveals a plan to destroy her whatever the children think of it.
