A ten-year-old watches his father die. Ten years later, he's still trying to save him. Your Story doesn't have time to let that breathe, crashing an entire life's worth of loss and searching into two hours of pure visual momentum. The animation is so clean it distracts from the fact that the story is running, not walking, through every plot beat Dragon Quest V spent 40 hours building. If you're here for the world and the score and the confirmation that this thing looks like nothing else on screen, you already know why you're watching it. If you're here for the story, the pacing will snap the thread before you catch it.
A young man escapes after ten years of forced labor spent building a great temple. As a child, he was taken from his father and saw him killed by powerful enemies while trying to protect him. Now free, he sets out to uncover the secrets of his father's past and learns that his mother is still alive. Following in his father's footsteps, he must track down the hero who wields the Zenithian sword so he can rescue her from the underworld and from Ladja. Along the way he also faces a hard choice about whether to marry Bianca or Flora. Adapted from Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride, this fantasy adventure film mixes its quest with comedy.
