A man walks through a monochrome city that feels like it exists outside time. Thirty seconds is all Shinkai gives you to understand that he's trapped, that the world around him is closing in, that something fundamental has been lost. The economy of it is crushing, every frame costs something, every sound choice matters, and by the time it ends you're left holding the weight of what he couldn't say.

Enclosed World is a very short drama piece by Makoto Shinkai, lasting only about thirty seconds. He made it in Lightwave 3D as an exercise in computer graphics, drawing inspiration from Haruki Murakami's novel Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. Tenmon, a regular collaborator on Shinkai's early work, provided the music. The short was first posted on Shinkai's website and was later taken down because of bandwidth limits, and a formal release looks unlikely.
